Whirlygig show and tell

Thought I would share with you this post some class photos from Simply Stitches in Wagga.  It is a busy place to be, run by Faye, catering for patchworkers and knitters and stocking everything else in between. 

This is Doris' version of Whirlygig - isn't it amazing.  It was emailed to me and I love to see the different coloured versions coming from people.  Thankyou Doris for sending it to me and congratulations on doing a great job with it. 



This is the ground floor of the shop, where the classes are held, and finally I remembered to take my camera and do some snapping.  Looking to the camera lens is left to right, Sally, Carole, Linda, Faye and Betty. 




Below is Linda's version of Whirlygig, abit hard to see the fabrics from my photo, but it is all coming together now and also looking great. 

This is Bev, also doing a quilt as you go adapted from another design in gorgeous florals.




Now Karen and Alison are looking to the camera, it was all heads down as they were getting on with their projects.  They were all quite busy and wanting to get on with the job.

Exciting News!

It is just the best exciting thing to happen to me since I have joined blogland.  Not only has my block been selected to be in the new Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Vol 5 edition, but I am going to be part of their Blogtour from April 30 to May 4. I will have more information and details as the dates get closer.

 I am sorry I have not got alot of other news today, still recovering from Easter and a bout of tummy bugs that went through the family.  School holidays tend to mean a little more family time and less sewing time.  But the fingers are itching, so stay tuned....

Happy Easter everyone..

Doesn't this bowl look like fun!  I hope that you all had a great Easter, a safe drive on the roads and that you ate lots and loads of chocolate just like me. It is great to now have the kids home for holidays and maybe a couple of sleepins for good measure.

Below are a couple of pics of a huge yellowbox gum tree that couldn't keep standing any longer, the ground just too wet from all the floods recently, that the root system gave in.  I always feel a little sad when big trees like this call it a day - many many decades of growing to get this size, they are just magnificent specimens of nature.


A closer view of the base, it just split in half and fell in opposite directions in the paddock, not an easy clean up for up coming tractor work! On the other hand, plenty of fire wood and will make for a spectacular bombfire.

A sign of life, the next generation has already begun, you can just see the new little gumtree sprouting in the middle there.

The cooler weather is staring to really set in now, nearly time to get the fire going - no shortage of fire wood!

Lucy Boston blocks

I was going to do this post yesterday, then I looked at the calender and realised that it was April Fools day - and knowing my luck with computers, thought that I would wait another day!  AND  I must say that I loved having that extra hour yesterday morning in bed, we are finally back to normal time.

A little while ago, I purchased the Lucy Boston quilt book, and being a mad paper piecer, this was another project to start with reproduction fabrics, I was also intrigued by the way you could arrange them to create so many different effects with all sorts of colours and prints.  Just gets you so hooked playing with fabric, quite abit of time can be spent playing around with them!!! 

The stripes of these fabrics are perfect for fussy cutting, and make for a fantastic effect (and good to use up some of those odd ones you don't know what to do with)

Keeping busy

You know when you can't fit anymore stuff into the box in the cupboard, when it overflows and the door won't close, its time for a sort out.  Hadn't realised that there where so many of these little chaps in there, so out they came to make way for new fabric purchases.  They will go in a new box for a project one day, not sure what yet, they will come in handy for something.

 Reds and browns are amongst my favourite colours in the reproduction ranges, and just had to have a project using them in a small way, alas Redgum was created, a medium quilt and tablerunner and using the economy block design as a base.

 This is another version of my Dorothy quilt, made a little bigger and donated to our local school.

Until next time, keep busy with those projects, because as we clean out and tidy up and finish off, it means we can start another one (or two)!

After the rain...

Firstly apologies for being off line, we have had rather alot of rain in the past week, which has caused major flooding in the towns, and also minor flooding around us with creeks up and paddocks being so water logged that you dare not drive off the track.

  Okay, back to more important things like patchwork -  if you are a reader of Homespun magazine, then turn to page 82, and this might look familiar. I am very happy with how it has come out in print, let me know your comments.

Sharon has breezed through my new design, Level Crossing with a rich combination of reproduction browns, she is just a whizz on the machine, looks fantastic.

 And here it is with the blocks together, just the borders to go..

Hot off the press...

Yes, this is hot off the press, Level Crossing is the new pattern for the month, being printed as I speak.  I have had great fun doing this one, chosing some of my favourite reproductions to go in it, and I have based it around fat 1/4's or 25cm cuts.

Below is one of my favourites so far, Mulberries of Amaroo, and once again great for fat 1/4"'s or scraps, also has notes for a large matching cushion.

Below is another version of the Whirlygig quilt done in scrappy Thimbleberry fabrics that was made as a raffle quilf for our local hall.
